Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. describe policies and practices designed to increase the number of students from underrepresented populations receiving gifted services;
  2. identify barriers that hinder equitable access to gifted education for underrepresented populations and explore strategies to address these barriers; and
  3. describe recommendations from the research findings to develop and implement inclusive strategies for identifying and supporting gifted students from culturally diverse backgrounds.

Description

Barriers and bridges to equitable gifted identification practices are revealed through exploration of a recent culturally responsive policy change. Findings expose disparities and offer insights for implementing inclusive strategies.
