This session will help participants…
- describe the advantages and disadvantages of rating scales for use in screening and in identifying dyslexia and reading-related skills;
- justify use of particular assessment instruments based on their ability to support empirical data-based decision making;
- characterize reliability and content/construct validity of three rating scales designed to identify dyslexia characteristics across populations; and
- describe the predictive validity of the three rating scales designed to identify/diagnose dyslexia consistent with inclusive best practices.
Description
This paper describes psychometric integrity of three sets of normed dyslexia rating scales and their advantages/disadvantages for the purpose of screening/diagnosing dyslexia. Best practices for using the scales are described.
