Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. become familiar with, or reminded of, federal eligibility guidelines for early intervention and preschool special education;
  2. learn about a study that asked child find teams about their eligibility determination practices and challenges when evaluating young children; and
  3. consider the role of eligibility criteria and state interpretations of federal guidelines on young children’s receipt of services and the implications for their own work.

Description

Child find mandates states identify young children with disabilities, yet research examining eligibility practices is sparse. This session describes a study of eligibility practices for young children and its implications.
