Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. describe the need for more equitable, robust mental health responses for youth following a disaster, and explain how school psychologists and educators can help meet this need;
  2. identify the demographic, occupational, and client-related factors that are associated with youth-serving professionals’ self-efficacy for supporting youth and caregivers postdisaster; and
  3. explain barriers to youth-serving professionals’ perceptions of their readiness to respond and support youth and caregivers postdisaster.

Description

Following disasters, mental health providers in schools and communities are tasked with responding to the mental health needs of youth. Learn about factors influencing responder self-efficacy and response-related issues.
