Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. assess the literature on the long-term benefits of minoritized students being taught by teachers of their same race;
  2. discuss research findings on the significance of student–teacher racial match during early childhood education; and
  3. offer insight into the proposed ways in which racial match may benefit student achievement (e.g., same-race teachers serving as role models, having more positive perceptions, capacity to relate culturally and have shared experiences with their same-race student).
