Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. explain trauma-related stressors that impact LGBTQ+ students and identify barriers and facilitators to implementing trauma-informed care for diverse student populations;
  2. learn how diverse student populations might benefit from trauma-informed, affirmative staff support;
  3. design strategies for facilitating culturally responsive, trauma-informed collaboration and consultation among school mental health professionals, teachers, and other staff members;
  4. implement strategies to conduct trainings and advocate for the implementation of trauma-informed and inclusive practices for LGBTQ+ students; and
  5. gain practical strategies and suggestions to conduct trainings and advocate for the implementation of trauma-informed, inclusive practices that benefit all students, including LGBTQ+ students.

Description

LGBTQ+ students need caring and affirming schools. Teacher perspectives on providing trauma-informed care to LGBTQ+ youth will be discussed. Attendees will learn how to promote LGBTQ+ affirmative trauma-informed care.
