Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. learn about a family-centered intervention, the Family-Check-Up, that integrates motivational interviewing;
  2. understand the relationships between motivational interviewing proficiency and parent motivation, parenting practices, and child emotional and behavioral problems in a family-centered intervention; and
  3. apply motivational interviewing skills to motivate and engage parents.

Description

This session presents a research study examining the effects of motivational interviewing proficiency on parenting practices and child outcomes. We highlight motivational interviewing skills to motivate and engage parents.
