This session will help participants…
- review NASP guidance and implications toward a significant practice shift related to social justice consultation at the systems level;
- review findings of research that examined trends in school psychologists’ and teachers’ readiness to adopt social justice practices, as well as preferred trainers for associated professional development activities to be conducted at the school or district level;
- discuss implications to practice: establishing credibility as a systems-level trainer, compensating for legislative limits (i.e., topic/terminology restriction) in designing training resources, and overcoming commonly referenced barriers to engaging in social justice or DEI practices in schools; and
- briefly recap political trends from 2022 through the 2023 legislative sessions aimed at limiting topics associated with social justice in schools.
