  1. analyze the differences and similarities between mixed-race and White students’ perception of school connectedness;
  2. describe the overall experience of mixed-race high school students and their sense of school connectedness to their peers, school staff, and curricular practices; and
  3. apply Kohut’s Theory of Self Psychology to the understanding of mixed-race student experiences related to school connectedness.

Exploring the mixed-race student experience regarding school connectedness is essential to understand the experiential reality of a historically marginalized racial group in a predominantly White high school environment.
