Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. gain insight in to the potential benefits of mindful breathing to enhance academic engagement and subsequent written expression skills in elementary-age students with performance difficulties in writing;
  2. gain knowledge about how mindful breathing can be integrated in to academic activities based on the current state of the research; and
  3. engage in a dialogue about the effectiveness of the integrated intervention approach and its potential application in educational contexts.

Description

Mindful breathing's potential to enhance attentional capacities and its impact on writing remain unexplored. This session reviews a study integrating mindful breathing into virtual after-school writing sessions for elementary students.
