Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. understand how contemporary conceptualization and implementation of MTSS for behavior have strayed from foundational principles in ways that uphold systems of oppression in schools;
  2. describe the negative individual and systems-level outcomes derived from identifying and labeling students as opposed to labeling behaviors and aligning resources for support; and
  3. apply guiding considerations to realign MTSS for behavior with foundational principles as a means of enacting antiracist and antiableist school psychological practice.

Description

How has MTSS drifted from founding principles? Experienced practitioners can learn how shifts in MTSS conceptualization may uphold systems of oppression and strategies for engaging in antiracist and antiableist practice.
