  1. review the importance of using evidence-based progress monitoring tools to monitor elementary students’ literacy skills;
  2. learn about how the long-term trajectory of students’ reading skill growth may differ between struggling readers and more proficient readers in first grade; and
  3. learn information that can inform work with parents of early childhood and early elementary students regarding students' school entry literacy skills.

Description

The present study investigated the nature of students’ growth in reading scores over time for students with strong versus novice literacy skills in first grade.
