Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. review the common mental health needs (e.g., anxiety, depression) of school-age youth, discussing how these needs have changed following the COVID-19 pandemic;
  2. review common services (e.g., group counseling), with associated providers, for meeting the mental health needs of youth in the K–12 setting;
  3. discuss evidence-based interventions to address common diagnoses (e.g., Coping Cat for anxiety) and their efficacy, with resources for how school psychologists can begin implementing these interventions in their work; and
  4. review social justice factors (e.g., race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, native language) that impact equitable access and service delivery to improve school psychologists’ consultation and advocacy skills.

Description

Mental health interventions are more important than ever post-COVID. This presentation will review students’ mental health needs and explore evidence-based strategies for meeting them equitably in the K–12 setting.
