Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. increase understanding of youth's experiences learning about race and racism in a peer group setting;
  2. increase understanding of the research on children and youth’s development of racial awareness and the origins of a color-blind ideology; and
  3. identify ways of advocating for social justice and antiracism at the individual, school-wide, and systemic levels.

Description

Popular media portrays school-age children as too young to learn about race and racism. Presenters will describe the results of a study exploring youth's experiences learning about antiracism and allyship.
