Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. identify and challenge ableist assumptions and stereotypes that hinder the sexual expression and exploration of individuals with disabilities;
  2. explore evidence-based strategies and approaches to create inclusive environments that promote positive sexual identities and relationships for individuals with disabilities;
  3. acquire practical skills to effectively support and advocate for individuals with disabilities in matters related to sexuality; and
  4. foster cultural competence by recognizing and addressing the diverse needs and experiences of individuals with disabilities in relation to their sexual identities.

Description

As part of this paper session, presenters will address the complex relation between sexuality and ableism to promote an inclusive approach to understand and support youth with disabilities.
