  • Poster Session 1: Promoting Diversity and Multicultural Competence in School Psychology

Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. identify which states provide guidance on screening, instruction, intervention, and assessment of dyslexia for English learners;
  2. describe how state-level guidance on dyslexia can support school psychologists’ comprehensive role as outlined by the NASP Practice Model; and
  3. advocate for changes at the state level when research does not align with state provided guidance.

Description

Less than half of states’ dyslexia handbooks provide guidance on screening, instructing, intervening, or assessing English learner students. Often guidance is limited or does not align with evidence-based practices.
