This session will help participants…

  1. identify common motivators for reading and writing in juvenile justice facilities;
  2. identify common barriers that hinder reading and writing in juvenile justice facilities; and
  3. collaborate with practitioners to reduce barriers and encourage reading and writing.

Description

Incarcerated students were interviewed about what factors encourage or hinder their learning in ELA. Discussion focuses on motivating reading and writing and reducing learning barriers in juvenile justice facilities.
