Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. understand pandemic-related disproportionality in school discipline practices in Colorado related to race and equity;
  2. understand pandemic-related disproportionality in school discipline practices in Colorado for students special education identification, on 504 plans, and English language learner status; and
  3. consider the range of factors that contribute to disproportionality in school discipline practices following the return to in-person learning, and findings may be useful for informing more equitable school-based disciplinary practices and policies.

Description

Did the pandemic lead to increased exclusionary school discipline practices? Which demographics experienced the strongest change? Statewide district-level discipline data from Colorado will be discussed.
