Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. understand hope theory in psychology;
  2. understand the relationship between hope and five psychosocial constructs (attitude toward teachers, academic motivation/self-regulation, academic self-concept, school belonging, and goal valuation) in Latinx youth; and
  3. explore how hope may be a promising avenue to improve the achievement-related outcomes of Latinx students and aid in mitigating the achievement gap.

Description

This poster session explores hope as a strategy for addressing the achievement gap of Latinx youth. Hope predicted five psychosocial variables—school belonging, academic self-concept, goal valuation, attitude toward teachers, and academic motivation.
