Learner Objectives
This session will help participants…
- review characteristics and attributes of effective IEP meetings and members;
- recognize how actively including families throughout the assessment supports a better understanding of the special education process and meaningful involvement in their child’s IEP;
- learn how to explain complicated, and at times difficult, assessment results through a more understandable referral driven presentation model; and
- demonstrate diversity and multicultural competence by modifying oral presentation and feedback practices to reflect the individual differences, strengths, backgrounds, and needs of families as IEP decision-making participants.
Description
Building a foundation for strong IEPs requires family involvement. Help transform meetings from disjointed inventories of data to efficient, understandable, and useful collaborations with parents by learning to discuss assessment results comfortably and effectively.
