Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. understand the nature of word-level reading and reading comprehension and why some students struggle in developing those skills;
  2. learn how current, commercially available tests and subtests can be used to assess the skills underlying word reading and reading comprehension; and
  3. use evaluation to precisely determine why students are struggling to learn to read, both native speakers of English and English language learners, as well as students with various disabilities (SLD, ID, autism, SLI).

Description

The goal of intervention-oriented assessment in reading is to determine precisely why students struggle in reading and to inform more effective Tier 2 and Tier 3 instruction.
