SY003: Alternatives to Ordinary-Least Squares Slope Calculations

Friday, February 16, 2024
4:00 PM–5:20 PM CST

  • PMD: 1
  • Cost: Included in Registration
  • Skill Level: Advanced

Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. understand alternative calculations of responsiveness to intervention metrics derived from ordinary least squares regression.
  2. learn how to calculate Theil-Sen and the repeated median regression slopes from progress monitoring data.
  3. appraise the extent to which Theil-Sen and the repeated median regression are viable alternatives to ordinary least squares regression.

Description

Ordinary-least squares (OLS) assumes the absence of outliers and normality of residuals. Two alternatives to computing slope are compared given progress monitoring data often violate these assumptions.
