Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. this session will help participants learn the components of “Kripalu Yoga in the Schools” and how it is implemented in schools.
  2. this session will help participants consider the current research and the benefits of yoga in schools.
  3. this session will help participants understand how yoga may increase resilience over time in students, which may provide a buffer against the effects of stress.

Youth often experience environmental stressors, leading to negative long-term outcomes. Tools to improve resilience are paramount. Yoga has emerged as a contemplative intervention to enhance resilience, yet research replicating such results in school settings is limited. This quasi-experimental research investigated a 15-session yoga intervention, Kripalu Yoga in the Schools, over 7 weeks among an ethnically diverse at-risk student population. Results indicated that yoga increased resilience over time, which may have buffered against the effects of stress.
