This session includes strategies for providing results of psychoeducational assessments in a culturally responsive manner. Participants will learn cultural factors that are important for consideration in planning and delivering the assessment feedback meeting. The session will also include hands-on training in the development of assessment feedback products that are tailored to the needs and interests of the family. The goal of this workshop is to prepare school psychologists to apply culturally responsive practices in assessment and assessment feedback.

 

Workshop Objectives:

 

This session will help participants

  1. learn to implement a culturally responsive assessment approach that begins at the initial interview and ends with the final feedback meeting,
  2. learn techniques for providing culturally tailored assessment feedback to youth and families, and
  3. learn how to demonstrate cultural sensitivity and empower families throughout the assessment process.

 

Prerequisite Knowledge

Knowledge of psychological assessment, formal report writing, and clinical interviews. This workshop will expand on basic assessment skills by taking a deeper dive into contextualized and tailored assessment feedback.

 

Practical Tools

Participants will leave the workshop not only with tools for integrating cultural factors in psychoeducational assessment reports, but also a structured guide for developing culturally tailored feedback for youth and their families.
