Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. learn five essential steps toward the development of a trauma-informed school;
  2. review various trauma screening tools and discuss specific assessment techniques to conduct a comprehensive trauma-informed evaluation; and
  3. explore effective classroom interventions and school-wide strategies to promote school safety, emotional wellness, and a positive school climate to foster emotional growth so all students can learn and succeed.


This workshop will explore five prominent brain changes that result from trauma and discuss how academic learning, behavior, and emotional wellness can be affected by excess stress and anxiety. Discussion will explore how schools can better recognize, screen, and provide appropriate intervention services for children who have experienced significant trauma in their lives. Developing school-wide trauma practices will be featured, along with key trauma screening tools.
