Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. learn cultural constructs they will be able to explore as part of formulating a sociocultural history,
  2. learn how to integrate culturally responsive interview questions to assess acculturation and determine strengths and assets of families,
  3. learn how to integrate cultural content into psychoeducational assessments as part of a comprehensive sociocultural history, and
  4. learn to apply cultural adaptations to evidence-based mental health interventions.


This workshop highlights essential skills for providing culturally responsive mental health services to children and adolescents. The presentation will include a rationale for cultural adaptations in evidence-based treatments, content for increasing cultural literacy, and strategies for integrating cultural variables into school-based interventions. Case examples will be shared to demonstrate the subtle and nuanced ways that culture influences assessment and intervention processes. Participants will learn techniques to develop thorough sociocultural histories and tailored evidence-based interventions.
