Thursday, February 17, 2022
1:30 PM–4:45 PM

  • CPD: 3
  • PMD: 2,4
  • Skill Level: Advanced

Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. conduct solution-focused conversations addressing a wide range of problems facing students, caregivers, and schools,
  2. quickly identify students’ goals and best hopes from counseling, and
  3. build on aspects of students and their lives that support hoped-for, culturally respectful outcomes.

Description

This hands-on session enables participants to experience solution-focused counseling (SFC) from the client’s and practitioner’s perspectives through on-site demonstrations, practice exercises, and debriefing conversations with the presenter. SFC is a brief, culturally sensitive, evidence-based approach that practitioners can apply with a wide range of pre-K–12 students, caregivers, and challenges, including trauma, behavior problems, and social–emotional difficulties. Participants will leave with a set of practical tools for helping students and caregivers build solutions from their strengths and resources.
