Tools for Assessing Classroom Management Within Data-Based Coaching and Consultation

This session is from the NASP 2021 Annual Convention

  • PMD: 1,5
  • Skill Level: Intermediate

Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. identify future directions in research and practice related to the assessment of instructional and behavioral management.
  2. describe the strengths and limitations of existing instructional and behavioral management assessment tools.
  3. explain potential applications of assessment tools for measuring instructional and behavioral management in the classroom.
  4. identify existing assessment tools with psychometric evidence and ecological validity for classroom applications.

Effective instructional and behavioral management in the classroom has been linked to students' increased academic learning and positive classroom behaviors. School psychologists can support educators' classroom management through data-based coaching and consultation but need empirically supported assessment measures to do so. This session will present results of a systematic literature review to identify and describe existing classroom management assessment tools. We will provide recommendations for using these tools within feasible, scalable coaching and consultation models.
