Promoting Mental Wellness in Schools Using the CDC's Professional Development Practices

Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. identify the CDC’s professional development steps.
  2. understand the value of technical assistance and methods for continued open communication for successful program implementation.
  3. use the action planning templates and processes to implement realistic, feasible, and sustainable school wellness programming.
  4. identify at least five of the WSCC components and understand their impact on child health.


This presentation provides a concrete example of successful implementation of the CDC’s professional development practices. The presentation will: (a) cover the CDC professional development steps using a successful program as an example, (b) cover hosting a mental health workshop including all 10 WSCC components and the successful coordination between schools and an academic institution, and (c) demonstrate the utility of the action planning processes and technical assistance applied with partnering schools to achieve their goals.
