Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. understand differences in school psychology employment rates across Texas.
  2. identify factors that contribute to the shortage of school psychologists in Texas.
  3. identify advocacy endeavors and initiatives that have helped increase school psychologists visibility, employment, and services.


This data collection a continued effort to analyze school psychologists’ employment trends in Texas. Regional ratios, student enrollment, and school psychologists FTE were used to evaluate regional differences and change across the past 3 school years. The results indicated marginal growth in statewide capacity with a decrease in overall average ratio. Factors in change and possible reasons for these shortages will be discussed.
