Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. understand how to adapt existing PBIS systems for students with autism.
  2. identify where adaptations for students with autism should be made for beginning PBIS implementation.
  3. identify how to best support students with autism without needing extensive behavior analytic training or knowledge.

Description

PBIS is linked to positive school outcomes. However, there is limited research of the effectiveness of PBIS for students with ASD. Understanding the unique needs of students with ASD within a PBIS framework is important for practitioners to better support students with ASD. This poster presentation compiles information for adapting PBIS for students with ASD, and provides a rationale for why providing these adaptions in crucial to the success of students with ASD in schools.
