Adapting School Bullying Assessments for Students With Disabilities

This session is from the NASP 2021 Annual Convention

  • PMD: 1,2
  • Skill Level: Introduction
  • Session 1: Promoting Safe and Positive Schools

Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. learn from our team's experiences with developing a school climate survey to use with our partner school’s intensive services program (ISP).
  2. learn important considerations for enhancing the accessibility of assessments for students with severe and multiple disabilities.
  3. learn about our team’s process of obtaining ISP teachers’ feedback and utilizing it to adapt our survey to more appropriately meet the needs of their students.

This presentation provides practitioners with ideas and considerations for adapting school climate surveys to be more accessible to students with severe and multiple disabilities. These ideas are drawn from the experiences of the Northern Illinois University Project Prevent and Address Bullying (PPAB) Scholars (supported by the U.S. Department of Education) and lessons learned from developing a school climate survey for a partner middle school.
