Check-In to School, Check-Out From Behavior in the SDC Setting

This session is from the NASP 2021 Annual Convention

  • PMD: 1,2
  • Skill Level: Intermediate
  • Session 11: Consultation and Collaboration With Educators and Parents

Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. apply Check-In Check-Out strategies in the secondary setting.
  2. engage in best practices as outlined in the NASP Practice Model through the use of consultation, collaboration, and intervention.
  3. advocate for the use of Check-In Check-Out strategies when addressing off-task and disruptive behaviors.

A Check-In Check-Out (CICO) system is used in one behavioral intervention case to decrease disruptive behaviors of a seventh-grade special education student. Results found that goals were not met and the problem behavior did not decrease due to low treatment fidelity and student absenteeism. Attendees will learn how to implement a CICO system at the secondary special education level.
