Best Practice in Nondiscriminatory Assessment

This session is from the NASP 2022 Annual Convention

  • PMD: 1,8
  • Skill Level: Introduction

Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. develop a clear understanding of the manner in which validity plays a central role in evaluation of diverse individuals
  2. be able to implement a simple, five-step process to ensure fairness and equity at all levels of the assessment process from pre-referral to post-referral decision-making.
  3. learn how to recognize various aspects of diversity that require implementation of a nondiscriminatory assessment framework to ensure fairness and equity in the process.

NASP’s principles and ethical standards dictate that all evaluations be fair and equitable. The purpose of this workshop is to present a revised and accessible framework for nondiscriminatory assessment that remains practical but effectively addresses validity concerns that commonly undermine fairness. The framework can be employed by all school psychologists, regardless of current competencies or skill, and can be placed immediately into practice.
