This session will help participants…

  1. this session will help participants learn strategies to analyze academic data of Latinx that are being referred to special education.
  2. the participants will learn how to incorporate culturally responsive practices in academic instruction to Latinx students.
  3. attendees will learn to analyze their state’s English Language Learner assessment to assist in the referral process to avoid segregation.
  4. attendees will learn how to identify which subtests are connected with interpreting Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency (CALP).
  5. The attendees will practice how to explain the referral process in Spanish to Latinx parents.

Description

Segregation has been an area of concern throughout history in special education. Latinx students make up 57% of children with disabilities in the state of California. This session will teach participants about strategies we can implement to reduce this number.
