Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. use the electronic After a Suicide: A Toolkit for Schools (2nd ed.) from the Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to help prepare school staff who are helping kids cope; and
  2. apply strategies of safe messaging in all school communications to students, parents, and the media, including social media, to limit contagion and safely memorialize.
  3. . design effective postvention plans for both traditional and virtual schools that are based on best practice strategies, use culturally responsive resources, and align with the NASP Practice Model;

Description

This workshop will present effective strategies for developing plans and preparing school staff. Providing guidance and leadership to schools in the aftermath of a student death by suicide requires knowledge of best practice strategies and culturally responsive resources to limit contagion.
