Mental health concerns plague our nation’s youth. Many problems can be lessened or even eliminated if addressed in the preschool years, especially when families and educators are provided with appropriate tools. Strategies for early detection, prevention, and intervention will be discussed. Advocacy efforts in increasing school psychologists’ involvement in early childhood will also be addressed.

Workshop Objectives

 This session will help participants

  1. increase their knowledge of current research on common mental health concerns in early childhood,
  2. learn advocacy strategies for increasing their involvement in early childhood prevention and intervention,
  3. enhance their knowledge and skills related to prevention and intervention strategies that promote mentally healthy young children, and
  4. learn methods for helping educators and families enhance their knowledge and skills related to prevention and intervention strategies that promote mentally healthy young children.

Prerequisite Knowledge

Experience in early childhood.

Practical Tools

Share mental health knowledge with educators and families. Share and implement prevention and intervention strategies for improving mental health in young children.
