Cultural competence has long been known as the cornerstone for diversity awareness and cross-cultural communication. But its flaws and limitations point to a paradigm shift toward cultural humility, a framework for advancing equity and social justice by intentionally living at the crossroads of who we are, how others see us, and where power positions us within a system. On a small scale, cultural humility can enhance communication, foster trust, deepen connections, and improve outcomes when interacting across difference. In the bigger picture, it's a process that can radically transform schools and organizations.
