Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) has a proven track record and can be integrated with standard practices to improve student success. Learn the foundational basis of ACT, practical applications, and exercises that can be used directly to build student resilience.

 

Workshop Objectives:

 

This session will help participants

  1. describe how thoughts, feelings, and physical and mental experiences influence one another;
  2. describe core ACT processes;
  3. create an individualized ACT Matrix and conduct a values assessment;
  4. use mindfulness techniques and experiential exercises to promote willingness; and
  5. discuss how to integrate ACT with their standard practices as a school psychologist.

 

Prerequisite Knowledge

Attendees should be familiar with standard behavioral and cognitive behavioral practices used by school psychologists.

  1. Psychoeducation on the automaticity of thoughts, feelings, urges

4. Experiential exercises to increase openness, willingness, and acceptance of internal experiences
