Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. describe how supporting students who are experiencing the incarceration of a parent fits into the role of a school psychologist, as outlined by the NASP Practice Model;
  2. identify the extent to which school psychology as a field has addressed and discussed parental incarceration within peer-reviewed and practitioner-oriented publications;
  3. assess their own preparedness to support students experiencing the incarceration of a parent and identify avenues for further professional development on this topic; and
  4. examine resources provided by the presenter and determine the usefulness of the resources for their own local context, student developmental level.

Description

Over 8% of school-age students have experienced the incarceration of a parent. Learn the importance of supporting students impacted by parental incarceration and identify resources and next steps.
