Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. promote parents reading aloud to their children from birth on as a family norm from review of research;
  2. learn the empirical research on the effectiveness of Reader's Theatre as a motivating intervention;
  3. learn the motivating effects of having therapy dogs in school to promote reading achievement; and
  4. have a listing of children's books that extol reading and prosocial skills.

Description

Parents must establish reading aloud to their child as a family norm. Enjoyment of reading predicted reading achievement. Reader's Theatre and therapy dogs at school make reading fun and accurate.
