Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. learn the concept of item fairness and differential item functioning (DIF) to make data-based decisions, consistent with Domain 1 of the NASP Practice Model;
  2. learn item evaluation process to promote unbiased and fair testing from the perspective of diversity, equity, and inclusion in standardized testing; and
  3. learn examples of DIF analysis in Woodcock-Johnson IV and CogAT to be more strategic in selecting a test that is well designed, researched, and comprised of unbiased items for their practice.

Description

In standardized assessments, how are biased items across subgroups evaluated? To learn about the item fairness concept and evaluation process, item fairness results for Woodcock-Johnson® and CogAT® will be presented.
