PO486: Costs of Excluding Learning Speed Measures When Evaluating Academic Interventions

  • PMD: 9
  • Cost: Included in Registration
  • Skill Level: Intermediate
  • Poster Session 8: Promoting Academic Success

Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. learn why learning speed measures should be used to compare and select interventions designed to prevent and remedy academic deficits;
  2. understand how failure to evaluate and compare interventions using measures of learning speed may aversely affect students, educators, and learning scientists attempting to inform practice; and
  3. understand current challenges and future directions in measuring learning speed, including dose-response curve analysis, reinforcer selection, and time spent assessing students.

Description

Several metrics measure learning, but failure to consider learning speed comes with costs. We use research-based arguments to support including measures of learning speed when evaluating and comparing academic interventions.
