This session will help participants…

  1. recognize the importance of culturally adapting methods to teach resilience in Pacific Islander children;
  2. understand the benefits of using bibliotherapy to teach resilience; and
  3. identify three ways educators can adapt stories for more culturally appropriate and effective bibliotherapy lessons.

Description

American Samoan youth face many barriers to improving their mental health. This session seeks to examine American Samoan children’s experiences of seeing themselves in culturally adapted bibliotherapy.
