This session will help participants…

  1. identify limitations and risk factors in mental health intervention for Indigenous American youth;
  2. gather culturally specific information using an adaptation of questions from the Kleinman Model to assess the specific needs of American Indigenous communities; and
  3. adapt intervention approaches in mental health to reflect the culture and community of the youth being supported.

Description

A revised approach to addressing mental health needs of Indigenous American youth is presented and considers adoption of Indigenous-informed healing practices and the use of Kleinman’s patient explanatory model.
