This session will help participants…

  1. understand the importance of promoting productive discourse as a pedagogical tool to increase math concept acquisition;
  2. understand small-group intervention techniques which promote student-led discussions and peer collaboration; and
  3. understand the effectiveness of guided prompts in promoting student participation, effective communication, and math achievement in small groups.

Description

This session will explore outcomes of an intervention that promotes using mathematical practices coupled with a structured activity to increase mathematical vocabulary, concept acquisition, and overall student discourse in math.
