Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. understand the implicit and explicit systems of oppression that faculty and students of color face throughout and after their training;
  2. acknowledge how faculty of color use their cultural wealth to combat structures of oppression and navigate the field of school psychology;
  3. identify specific strategies to help cultivate more inclusive school psychology training programs within higher education institutions and during practicum experiences; and
  4. advocate for antiracist and social justice changes in school psychology graduate training programs.

Description

This qualitative study describes how faculty of color have both experienced and resisted racism and oppression in academia, informing recommendations for creating critical change in school psychology training.
