Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. identify how trauma impacts parenting styles and what kind of parenting tools could be useful for mitigating the cycle of generational trauma;
  2. learn how schools can best support families with a history of generational trauma through efficient communication, standardized protocol, and preventive measures; and
  3. inform participants on adverse childhood experiences and how to identify strategies to empathize with parents who are working to disrupt the cycle of intergenerational trauma.

Description

Does parental trauma influence child development? Can parent protective factors prevent the transmission of intergenerational trauma? Learn how schools can support families who have experienced adverse life experiences and trauma.
