Learner Objectives

This session will help participants…

  1. differentiate the term "dyslexia" from other reading disorders in order to better understand literacy rates in the United States;
  2. classify reading disorders and dyslexia into various subtypes and link to scores of research-based interventions;
  3. understand the differences between a traditional achievement test versus a diagnostic achievement test when assessing reading disorders; and
  4. learn various dyslexia screening instruments that can be utilized within a MTSS service delivery model.

Description

This workshop will explore how young children acquire basic reading skills from a brain-based educational perspective, and highlight best practices in screening, assessing, and remediating dyslexia in all students.
