This session will help participants…
- understand the nature and quality of facilitated friendships amongst those with ID as reported by those with ID and their caregivers;
- examine quotes and material culture from those with ID involved in a phenomenological study using an emancipatory inquiry framework; and
- review ways that school psychologists can partner with families and communities to promote friendship opportunities for students with ID.
Description
Individuals with intellectual disabilities (ID) often struggle forming and maintaining friendships. Learn how youth with ID conceptualize friendship and how educational systems can improve social skills services for this population.
